Asking the Moon to Supper

Asking the Moon to Supper

A girl.
A dog.
And enough courage
to leave
the world behind.

Somewhere between blurred boundaries of real and imagined worlds, newly orphaned Sam Ambrose loses her beloved dog while searching for her nomadic magician grandfather. But her search takes her too far into an untamed forest where time itself is frozen and there can be no turning back.

When Sam stumbles upon a haunt of mythical outcasts, she finds she cannot escape their hidden world. Unless she can interpret the maps in her grandfather’s secret magic book and accept guidance from a sorcerous mask maker, her dog and grandfather will never be found. And she too, might be in danger of vanishing into the unknown.

An Excellent Book

An orphan girl’s bold determination to find her beloved dog, takes her into a frightening land, frozen in time where she must continually find new courage to keep going. The writing is poetic with descriptions of this magical, yet treacherous world and characters that are a combination of flawed, endearing, and relatable. Would absolutely recommend. The 20+ Illustrations are wonderfully ethereal.

Dramatic Story with Beautiful Illustrations by the Author

Asking the Moon to Supper is a delightful, realistic fantasy that follows the adventures of a thirteen-year-old Ojibwa girl in search of her dog DeeOgee from a cold Minnesota 1957 winter into a magical split in earth and time. Despite insurmountable hardship, Sam’s choice to never stop looking for her beloved dog portrays the power of loyalty and determination. Excitement grips the reader through twists and turns until months later, Sam wakes up battered and bruised on the front porch of a friend’s house in Green Earth. What was real? What were dreams? Did she actually cross into another time and place? The book ends with a last surprise. Sam returns to Green Earth fifty years later. Not only is Asking the Moon to Supper an excellent read but it is beautifully illustrated by the author with twenty-three pencil drawings depicting the excitement of the story.

This amazing journey to find a missing dog will take your breath away!

This book had me at page one. The characters and incredible journey were amazing, addictive, unique and written with such compelling descriptions of a world unlike any I ever imagined. The range of emotions, the braveness of not only the main character but of those she met while searching for her missing dog grabbed my heart. I stepped into this tale and never left it. The side effects of experiencing the beauty of this book are long lasting and priceless. I'm ready for the motion picture!

Wondrous visceral ride through writing & art!

“Asking the Moon to Supper“ author CJ Clark is an extraordinary writer and visual artist; her descriptive writing takes you to another World, and her illustrations are beyond Magical. Her book is so visceral, you can feel the fierce love felt by an Ojibwa Indian girl in her search for her lost dog and her last family member, across a Magical split in Earth and Time. Her story is a roller coaster ride set in starkly beautiful Nature, exploring the Mysteries of time travel and the Wisdom that follows, even befriending the ancient lonesome Moon. I have re-read the book three times now. It’s the sort of reading journey that you don’t want to end, so welcome in our present times.
